VILLANOVA KNIGHTS

The school offers a wide variety of sports at both the varsity and the Under 14 level. Students are encouraged to participate in at least one club or activity. The co-curricular programme will begin at 3:20 p.m. and will be considered part of the school day. Students not able physically to participate, will assist with the activity or club and remain at school until the completion of the activity.

The athletic program is an integral part of school life at Villanova and therefore an integral part of the overall development of our students. Student-athletes maintain a minimum of a 65% average to be eligible to participate on any varsity team at the school. A final condition for participatin in our program is a behaviour that is exemplary of a Christian Student.

Villanova College is a member of the Conference of Independent School Athletic Association (CISAA), which embraces the philosophy that competitive athletic programmes balance the excellent academic tradition of its member schools. Villanova College also recognizes the vital role that physical conditioning and athletic competition play in enhancing the school experience. Villanova College Athletics seeks to fulfill the School’s philosophy of creating a caring environment where young men and women learn the rewards of hard work, discipline, team commitment and sportsmanship.

At the under 14 (Middle School) level, the focus will be on skill development through participation. If possible, each team member should receive a fair consideration of playing time unless there is a risk of injury, or physical or emotional harm.

At the Junior (Under 16) level, emphasis is on participation and fundamental skill development with greater attention paid to game strategy and team play. All teams at the Junior level are developmental teams for the Varsity or Senior team levels. Skill level is a determining factor in game participation.

At the Senior (Under 19) level, the objective is to produce as competitive a programme as possible. The primary goal is to seek a League Championship in order for student-athletes to see the fruits of their hard work and dedication in a successful programme.

At all levels, developing a spirit of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play by all student-athletes and coaches is essential. At all times, players, coaches and spectators must treat officials and opponents with respect.
