As students transition from elementary to Middle School, they are ready for greater challenges and more opportunities to explore and develop their critical thinking skills. At Villanova College we provide an innovative academic program with inquiry-based learning. We extend beyond the provincial standards to provide students with a greater depth and breadth of learning. Our teachers make learning exciting, engaging, and enduring by cultivating feelings of trust, respect, and optimism in the classroom.
Small class sizes and a homeroom teacher structure with weekly Advisor sessions allow our caring faculty to give students the individual attention they require to reach and exceed their potential. Individual talents are further nurtured and supported through our after-school programs which include: tutorials and supervised homework room, the Guided Learning Centre, peer tutoring, and various extracurricular programs.
Middle School Academic Program
Our Middle School is aware of the unique qualities and needs of young adolescents, intellectually and socially. All Middle School teachers meet regularly as Grade Level Teams to ensure individual student progress is closely monitored across all subject disciplines. We teach students the essential skills for learning how to learn, guiding them to refine their learning skills and work habits to prepare them for the Upper School.
Grades 4, 5, 6
Our junior students transition to the Middle School through the guidance and support of their Homeroom teacher who teaches the core subjects (English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Religion). All other subjects (French, Physical Education, Music and Art) are full rotary. Homeroom teachers develop a relationship with each student. Through understanding their particular needs and talents, the homeroom teacher can appropriately challenge and nurture each student.
Grades 7 & 8
Our intermediate students are taught by subject specialists. Students at this age are both ready for, and benefit from the rigours of full rotary with the continued support of their homeroom teacher. Through inquiry based learning, we further students’ intellectual curiosity and increase their abstract thinking and problem solving abilities. Grade 8 students are able to acquire two reach-ahead credits in Music and Business Technology.
